Ishan Kishan was an integral part of the Indian white-ball team at one point. He wasn’t a regular in the playing XI but was a vital part of the squad, having played a couple of games in the ODI World Cup 2023 in the absence of Shubman Gill. Soon after that, things changed drastically as the keeper-batter is currently not a part of BCCI’s central contract. He notified the team management about the decline of his mental health during the South Africa tour in 2023 and later, didn’t feature in the Ranji Trophy as well, leading him to getting axed from the contract.

Kishan was subjected to immense criticism during that phase, especially for skipping the Ranji Trophy and practising with IPL captain Hardik Pandya in Baroda. Reflecting upon that, Kishan opened up stating that social media is always filled with negativity but he understands that it changes as soon as he starts performing for the team. The Patna-born also reminded how Pandya was trolled on social media during IPL 2025.

“I feel negativity will be there on social media. People will troll you if you don't do well and that is very normal. I feel every sportsperson should accept that this is going to happen and you shouldn't make a huge fuss about it. I feel you should enjoy that also because at the end of the day, you know what when you perform then the same set of people will praise you also. That happened with Hardik also. People were trolling him also but he just did his work, performed well in the World Cup and now you can see the result,” Kishan told the Times of India.

Negativity will be there but you have to find that neutral point: Kishan

The 26-year-old highlighted that amid all the negativity, one should search for the neutral point and take all the criticism in a very sporting manner. Ishan Kishan added that the people on social media can’t be controlled and he can’t do much about what others are saying. However, he advised the budding cricketers to stay away from socials and not let it affect them.

“Negativity will be there but you have to find that neutral point so that you take everything in a very sporting way. You can't control social media. Jo bhi chalega, it's okay. I feel you don't have to get too much into this social media also. When I speak to younger guys who are getting into big teams, I tell them the same thing to please try and be away from social media,” Kishan concluded.
