'You have to look at England' - Nikhil Chopra urges India to take inspiration from England for T20I revamp

Former India spinner Nikhil Chopra has said that India must take inspiration from England to revamp their T20I game. Chopra’s remarks came after the Indian team’s ten-wicket demolition in the second semifinal of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval on November 10.

India’s conservative approach in the powerplay overs meant that they could only manage 168/6 in their 20 overs. England, on the other hand, chased down the target comfortably with a good four overs to spare courtesy of amazing power-hitting skills from their openers Jos Buttler and Alex Hales.

“It is very important to set a roadmap for the next World Cup. You have to look at England. They bounced back brilliantly after not qualifying (for the 2015 World Cup semifinal). They had decided how they were going to play in the bilateral series from there on irrespective of whether they won or lost, but their batters always look to set a template,” said  Nikhil Chopra while speaking on ‘Batbricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti’ on CricTracker.

The Indian team batted really slowly in the powerplay overs courtesy of some tight bowling from the English and could only score 38/2 in their first ten overs. It was courtesy of valiant half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya that India at least managed to get to a challenging total in the first place.

Coming back to the final of the ongoing event, England bowers showed a disciplined performance with the ball in hand and chipped in with wickets at regular intervals to restrict Pakistan to a manageable total of 137/8 in 20 overs. 

The Three Lions would be hoping that their batters get the job done. A victory here would make England the team with the joint-most T20 World Cups along with the West Indies and apart from that, they would also be the first-ever team to hold the ODI and T20I world titles at the same time.
