Visitors Australia are leading the three-match series by 1-0.
India and Australia will lock horns again at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur for the second T20I of the three-match series. The first game at Mohali did not end in India’s favour, as the Men in Blue, even after putting up a big target of 209 runs, failed to defend it and the visitors went on to chase it down in the final over.
The second game will be an opportunity for the Indian side to redeem themselves. Australia has a 1-0 lead in the series, meaning India needs to win the next two fixtures to claim the series, and another loss can not be on the cards. On the other hand, the visitors would be looking to carrying their momentum in the next game and seal the series early on.
As for India, Harshal Patel made his return to the international setup after missing out owing to a prolonged injury. But his return did not go the way he had expected, as the Australia hitters took a toll at him and smashed him for 49 runs in his four overs spell. It was a disappointing outing for every bowler except for Axar Patel, who took three of Australia’s six wickets that fell.
Patel conceded just 17 runs in four overs, but the senior bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Hardik Pandya all gave away runs in bulk. Even with the bat, only KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, and Pandya managed to perform well. The Australian side worked like a unit during the chase, which helped them pull off their second-highest chase in their T20I history.
The upcoming fixture will be a do-or-die game for India, and their only focus would be to win it. With the T20 World Cup approaching, all the teams are gearing up for the marquee event. Contests in the T20I format ahead of the mega event will help the teams prepare themselves and get an idea of the playing combination.
Pitch Conditions
Although the Nagpur surface is a reasonably good one for batting, it is still not as leveled as the Mohali turf. With the spinners entering the fray late in the game, the bowlers will have a significant impact. The toss becomes crucial because dew is anticipated to be prevalent in the second innings. At the venue, the side that wins the toss will likely choose to bowl first.
Playing Combinations for IND vs AUS
India
The Indian team would be looking to strengthen their bowling lineup, and with reports of Jasprit Bumrah being fit to play again, he is likely to replace Umesh Yadav in the combination. While the batters will look to keep up with their power-hitting, the bowlers will have to work hard to do their bit with perfection.
Predicted Playing XI: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Axar Patel, Harshal Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal
Australia
Australia would look to keep up with their form and would try to make minimal mistakes. They need just one win to bag the series, and with players like Cameron Green, Matthew Wade, and now Tim David on the side, the batting department has grown even stronger. The bowlers, unlike the previous game, would look to restrict the Indian batters.
Aaron Finch (c), Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, Tim David, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Nathan Ellis, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa
