India Women vs Ireland Women Match Preview, 1st ODI
India are set to host Ireland in a three-match ODI series in Rajkot.
India are set to lock horns with Ireland in the first ODI in the three-match series at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on Friday, January 10.
The Women in Blue are coming into the series on the back of a comprehensive 3-0 win against the West Indies last month in Vadodara. India are the overwhelming favourites heading into the series against Ireland, who lost their previous ODI series against Bangladesh by a 0-3 margin in Dhaka in November-December.
Harmanpreet Kaur will miss the series as Smriti Mandhana is going to take charge of the side in her absence. The Southpaw had a fantastic finish to 2024 as she smashed five half-centuries and one ton in her last seven matches across formats. Meanwhile, the experienced Renuka Singh Thakur has been given a breather as Saima Thakor and Titas Sadhu are expected to lead the pace attack. Raghvi Bist and Sayali Satghare are the two uncapped players in the side. Pratika Rawal will continue opening with Mandhana as Shafali Verma has been dropped from the squad. Furthermore, Arundhati Reddy has also been snubbed.
Meanwhile, the young and talented Gaby Lewis is set to lead Ireland in the series. A lot will depend on the experienced duo of Laura Delany and Orla Prendergast. The latter will have to make important contributions with bat and ball in every game. There is a good amount of talent in the Irish side but they need to bring their A-game to the fore to push the Indian team in their backyard.

Pitch Report:
The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium is known for producing some excellent surfaces for batters. A lot of runs are expected to be scored across the three games. Winning the toss and opting to bat first could be a great choice at this venue.
