Last year's wooden spoon holders Mumbai Indians will host Kolkata Knight Riders in the 22nd league fixture of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2022 at the Wankhede on Sunday, April 16. The five-time champions head into the contest after registering their first win of the tournament in a hard-fought contest against the Delhi Capitals.

Mumbai Indians' skipper Rohit Sharma finally ended his half-century drought in the competition with a sublime fifty in his side's previous encounter. His return to form is a good sign for the Mumbai-based franchise as they look to register their second successive victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

Meanwhile, a spirited Kolkata Knight Riders were humbled by Sunrisers Hyderabad in a high-scoring thriller in their previous encounter. While Nitish Rana's side put up a valiant fight with the bat, a horror show by their bowlers in the first innings led to their demise in their own backyard in Kolkata.

Although KKR's record against Rohit Sharma's side makes for an embarrassing reading, the Kolkata-based franchise will take comfort from the fact they have won their last three fixtures against the five-time champions.

Pitch and Conditions

The last match at this venue saw plenty of assistance for the slower bowlers. Despite the purchase on offer for the spinners, the batters can cash in at this surface once they get their eye in. Given it is a day game, the team winning the toss would be inclined to bat first in the crucial fixture.

Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma found his mojo in the previous game, while young batting star Tilak Varma continued his good run with the bat. The explosive Australian duo of Tim David and Cameron Green also rose to the occasion in the latter stages of the match to hand their side a much-needed victory, a good sign for the Mumbai Indians.

Probable Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Jofra Archer, Arshad Khan, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendorff
