The Mumbai Indians (MI) will host defending champions, Gujarat Titans (GT), in the 57th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai, on Friday, May 12. Both teams have clashed twice so far and have won a match each.

GT currently sits at the top of the points tally with 16 points and will aim to consolidate their spot further. MI, on the other hand, are placed in the third spot in the IPL points table with 12 points, after having won six of their 11 matches.

The five-time IPL champions defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in their last clash at the Wankhede Stadium, in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the defending champions are coming off with a massive 56-run win over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their previous encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad.

MI have had a dismal start to the season, but they did, however, manage to gather momentum. Both teams must win the match to consolidate their current position in the table. Fans can expect a fascinating match as MI and GT compete for victory in the high-octane clash in Mumbai.

Pitch and Conditions

Wankhede Stadium is well-known for its flat surface and small boundaries, which favour batters. The spinners can also play a vital role as they can change their pace and employ variations efficiently, particularly in the middle and fag end of the match. On this pitch, going by recent results, the skippers will prefer to chase the target by batting second at this venue.

Probable Playing XI for MI vs GT

Mumbai Indians

Despite skipper Rohit Sharma's poor form, MI are likely to come up with the same team. Tristan Stubbs is very likely to get a place in the playing XI.

Probable Playing XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David, Nehal Wadhera, Chris Jordan, Piyush Chawla, Akash Madhwal, Kumar Kartikeya, Jason Behrendorff

Probable Playing XI: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya (c), Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Mohit Sharma, Noor Ahmad, Mohammed Shami
