India women started their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on a disappointing note as they lost by 58 runs against New Zealand. They were bowled out for just 102 runs in the second innings as the Women in Blue faced difficulty against the opponents.
For New Zealand Sophie Devine, Georgia Plimmer and Suzie Bates stood out as they scored 57* (36), 34 (23) and 27 (24) respectively and put up a target of 160 on board for the Women in Blue. As for India women, Renuka Singh picked up 2 wickets, and Arundhati Reddy and Asha Shobana one wicket each whereas the batters could not give their best in their opening match.
In the second match against Pakistan, India women put up a good show as they beat Pakistan by 6 wickets. Shefali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues played a good game as they scored 32 and 23 runs respectively whereas skipper Harmanpreet Kaur had to return to the pavilion after getting injured while saving herself from getting stumped, however, she scored 29 runs against the opponents. Arundhati Reddy won the Player of the Match as she took three wickets with an economy of 4.75 in her four overs.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka women have not been able to show their winning game as they lost both their matches against Pakistan and Australia by 31 and 58 runs respectively. They would be looking to win their match against India and get a point in the table.

Pitch Report
The pitch in the Dubai International Stadium has not been great for the batters. It would be crucial for the teams will have to score as many runs without losing early wickets in the powerplay. Scoring runs is going to be a difficult task on this pitch. Winning the toss and choosing to bat first will be a plus point for the teams and any score above 130 is going to be a difficult chase.
