India Capitals became the proud champions of the Legends League Cricket 2022 after they thrashed the Bhilwara Kings by 104 runs in the final match of the tournament played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on September 5 (Wednesday).
Talking about the game, Kings won the toss and opted to have a bowl first. Capitals got themselves in all sort of trouble as their top-order collapsed on the night of the final. Capitals' skipper Gautam Gambhir was sent back to the pavilion quite early, followed by Zimbabwe star Hamilton Masakadza, Denesh Ramdin and Dwayne Smith.
The Capitals were 21/4 in 4.3 overs, but former Kiwi skipper Ross Taylor and Australia veteran Mitchell Johnson came to the rescue of Capitlas as both showed their capabilities with the bat.
Ross Taylor and Mitchell Johnson to Capitals' rescue
Both Taylor and Johnson stitched a 126-run partnership and made a strong comeback in the contest. Some late hitting by West Indies all-rounder Ashley Nurse ensured that the Capitals manage to cross the 200-run mark in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing 212 to win the silverware, Kings collapsed to say the least. Their opening batters Morne van Wyk and William Porterfiled who had been the chief scorers for them throughout the competition failed to get going. Former Australia skipper Shane Watson tried to get the scoring rate get going, but unfortunately he got run out.
After the fall of Watson, none of Kings batters except Jesal Karia and S Sreesanth managed to cross the double-figure mark as Capitals under the leadership of former World Cup winner and two-time Indian Premier League (IPL) winning skipper Gautam Gambhir got over the line with ease at the end.
For Capitals, Pawan Suyal, Pankaj Singh and Pravin Tambe were the pick of the bowlers as they scalped two wickets each for their side. Pacers Johnson, Liam Plunkett and Rajat Bhatia also took one wicket each for their team as Capitals won the second edition of the LLC.
