The Thailand Women came out on top against the United Arab Emirates by 19 runs while defending a modest total in Match 12 of the Women's Asia Cup 2022, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on October 7. What made the occasion even more special was that the Thai team registered yet another convincing win after they overcame Pakistan by four wickets a day ago.

With the win, Thailand have made further advancements in the points table, with two more precious points added to their tally in their quest to rewrite history in the continental tournament. The UAE, on the other hand, faltered in a manageable chase.

UAE lose the plot chasing chasing 109

Batting first, Thailand lost openers Nannapat Koncharoenkai and Natthakan Chantham early and at one point it seemed as if their dismissals would open up the floodgates for the UAE bowlers. However, that was not to be as skipper Naruemol Chaiwai and Sornarrin Tippoch added 45 runs for the third wicket partnership. Chaiwai scored an unbeaten 37 while Tippoch contributed 25.

An impactful eight-ball 19 from Rosenan Kanoh helped Thailand post a fighting total of 108/4. Captain Chaya Mughal, Mahika Gaur, and, Khushi Sharma picked up a wicket each for UAE.

In reply, the United Arab Emirates did get off to a good start but they could not recover after a couple of quick blows. The Thai bowlers kept adding pressure on the opposition batting and they could not escape from the stranglehold as the asking rate kept mounting.

The UAE batters kept losing wickets at regular intervals and barring opener Kavisha Egodage (29), none of the other batters managed to cross the 20-run mark as they were restricted to 89/8. For Thailand, Thipatcha Putthawong and Onnicha Kamchompu picked up two wickets each while Nattaya Boochatham, Phannita Maya and Nanthitha Boonsukham chipped in with one scalp each.
