Team Pakistan snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after they somehow managed to win their last group-stage encounter of the 2022 Women's Asia Cup. Ayesha Naseem was the hero for her side as she smacked two back-to-back maximums and sealed the game for the Women in Green with seven balls left.

Talking about the match, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to have a bat first on a slow batting pitch. The skipper Chamari Athapaththu finally showed her class as she smacked 41 runs in just 26 deliveries and hit nine boundaries.

She played a vital knock for her team and stitched an important partnership with Hasini Perera after opener Harshitha Madavi failed to get going. Sri Lanka raced across the 50-run mark but the skipper Athapaththu had to go back to the pavilion as she was scalped by Tuba Hassan.

After the fall of the captain, Sri Lanka's middle order struggled to score runs as wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals. Oshadi Ranasinghe played a valiant knock of 26 runs but took 29 balls in her innings. The batting team could not even complete their allotted 20 overs as they were bowled out for just 112 runs.

For Pakistan, spinner Omaima Sohail was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed an excellent five-wicket haul and gave away just 13 runs in her four overs.

Pakistan almost stumbled in its chase

Pakistan openers Muneeba Ali and Sidra Ameen gave a decent start to their team. However, the Pakistani team lost four wickets in quick succession. Both the openers apart from skipper Bishmah Maroof and Sohail got out despite getting starts with the bat.

Batter Nida Dar played a valuable unbeaten knock of 26 runs. Aliya Riyaz also made a good contribution of 20 runs. However, the body blow was given by Naseem as she smacked two back-to-back maximums and sealed the game for her team with seven balls to spare. The Women in Green will now take on Sri Lanka again in their semi-final match of the 2022 Women's Asia Cup on October 13 (Thursday).
