December 16, 2022 will be etched in history and haunt Big Bash League franchise, Sydney Thunder for recording the lowest total ever in the T20 format of the sport. Sydney were skittled for just 15 runs to record the lowest total not just in their top-tier league’s history but in the entire format, be it international cricket or league cricket.

The T20 format of the sport is an exciting format for the fans as there is just so much happening at such a short span of 3 hours. There have been teams and players, who have etched their names in history for both good and bad reasons during the course of the T20 contest.

Fans have witnessed teams scoring massive totals to even the ones that end up at the opposite end of the spectrum with the lowest totals. Brace yourselves as we list down the top five lowest totals ever recorded in the shortest format of the sport with teams bundling out in their innings.

5. Mali, Tripura, and Thailand – 30 runs

Mali is among the only side to have found themselves in the list of lowest totals with the score of 30 runs which came against Kenya and Rwanda in the span of four days in October 2022. Furthermore, along with Mali, Tripura in their fixture against Jharkhand in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2009, were bundled out for 30 runs in under 12 overs. Thailand too replicated a similar result in the Quadrangular Twenty20 Series against Malaysia as they were all-out in 13.1 overs for a score of 30 which was chased in under 4 overs by the rival side.

4. Turkey – 28 runs

Turkey stands fourth on the list of lowest totals ever recorded as the side ended up scoring mere 28 runs against Luxembourg in the Continental Cup in 2019. The scorecard of the Turkey batting innings to a great extent could be compared with that of a telephone number as the entire side ended up with single digits to their names. The highest score came from opener Hasan Helva, who managed to score only seven runs and interestingly, Luxembourg’s extras (wide and Legbyes) equalled the highest individual score of the rival side. Ankush Nanda of the bowling side relished scalping a fifer (5/6) in the contest.

3. Lesotho – 26 runs

Lesotho could only manage to score 26 runs in their match against Uganda in the T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier Group A in 2021. Uganda’s Dinesh Nakrani bowled a terrific spell of scalping six wickets and giving away mere seven runs. Skipper of Lesotho, Samir Patel was the only batter with a double-digit score from the side with 10 runs scored.

2. Turkey – 21 runs

Turkey once again made headlines when they got dismissed for 21 runs against Czech Republic in the Continental Cup 2019. It was the same competition that the side were bundled out for under 35 runs for atleast three times the same year. Batting first, Czech scored a massive 278 runs in their stipulated 20 overs as it became arguably the highest score in a T20 format whereas Turkey had a contrasting night with their score becoming the lowest total ever in the particular year with 21 runs.

1. Sydney Thunder – 15 runs

An absolute disaster-class performance by the Sydney franchise as the side registered the lowest total ever scored by a team in the shortest format of the sport. Sydney were bundled out for just 15 runs in mere 5.5 overs of the contest against Adelaide Strikers in the second outing in their campaign. Adelaide bowlers Henry Thornton (5/3) and Wes Agar (4/6) picked as many as nine wickets between them during the contest.
