Mehidy Hasan Miraz stunned India as he smashed an unbeaten 38 off 39 and shared a 51-run partnership with Mustafizur Rahman for the tenth wicket to seal a sensational victory for his side in the first of the three-match ODI series in Mirpur. All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was also the star performer for the hosts for his spell of 5/36 with two maidens in ten overs. Chasing a target of just 187, both the Bangladeshi players held their nerve at the end to win the opener by a margin of one wicket and take a 1-0 lead in the series.
Speaking of how the match panned out, skipper Litton Das won the toss and opted to field first. India captain Rohit Sharma amassed 27 while Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli fell for single-digit scores. Man-in-form in the 50 overs format, Shreyas Iyer managed to score 24 off 39. India’s innings was all about wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul, who struck 73 off 70 which included five fours and four maximums as his side reached a total of 186 in 41.2 overs. Apart from Shakib, pacer Ebadon Hossain also snared four scalps for 47 runs in his 8.2 over spell.
In reply, the home side got off to a disastrous start as they lost Najmul Hossain Shanto on the very first delivery of the innings. Skipper Das mustered 41 while Shakib contributed with his knock of 29. Barring Shahbaz Ahmed, all other Indian bowlers kept picking up wickets with Bangladesh struggling at 136/9. Miraz and Rahman then joined hands to script a memorable win for their side. Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the Indian bowlers for his spell of 3/32 in 10 overs. For his match-winning innings and bowling performance of 1/43 which included a maiden and the crucial scalp of Dhawan in nine overs, Miraz won the Player of the Match award.

5/36 – Shakib Al Hasan recorded the best figures of 5/36 by a left-arm spinner against India in ODIs. Previously, England’s Ashley Giles took 5/57 in Delhi in the year 2002.
290 – Shakib has now taken the seventh most wickets (290) by a spinner in ODIs. He surpassed Saqlain Mushtaq’s tally of 288 scalps. Muthiah Muralitharan (534), Shahid Afridi (395), Anil Kumble (337), Sanath Jayasuriya (323), Daniel Vettori (305), and Shane Warne (293) are in the top six positions.
20.44 – Virat Kohli has scored 184 runs in nine innings at an average of just 20.44 in ODIs in 2022. His average is the lowest in a calendar year with the previous lowest being 31.80 in his debut year.
186 – India registered their second-lowest total of 186 against Bangladesh in one-day internationals. Previously, they got bundled out for just 105 in a 41-over per-side contest in Mirpur in 2014.
51* - Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman recorded the fourth-highest tenth-wicket partnership of 51* in a successful ODI run chase. The top three stands are between Deryck Murray and Andy Roberts (64*) against Pakistan in 1975, James Faulkner and Clint McKay (57*) against England in 2014, and Thomas Odoyo and Hiren Varaiya (55*) against Ireland in 2007.
127 – With 127 wickets at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, Shakib is now the leading wicket-taker in ODIs at a particular venue. He went past Wasim Akram, who took 122 scalps in Sharjah.
250 – Kuldeep Sen became the 250th player to represent India in one-day internationals.
6 – The Bangla Tigers won just their sixth out of the 37 ODIs against India.
2 – Ebadot Hossain became the second Bangladeshi player to get out hit-wicket in the ODI format. Sheikh Salahuddin also got out in the same fashion against Kenya in the year 1997.
58.44 – KL Rahul has amassed 526 runs in 11 innings at a solid average of 58.44 with one century and five fifties at no. five in the ODI format.
6 – Rohit is now the sixth-highest run-scorer with 9403 runs for India in ODIs. He surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin’s tally of 9378 runs. Sachin Tendulkar (18426), Virat Kohli (12353), Sourav Ganguly (11221), Rahul Dravid (10768), and MS Dhoni (10599) are in the top five spots.
3 – For the third time, Bangladesh scripted a one-wicket victory in the 50-overs format. Their previous both wins came against Zimbabwe in Harare and Chattogram in 2007 and 2009 respectively.
2 – Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman registered the second-highest tenth-wicket partnership of 51* for the Bangla Tigers in the format. Khaled Mashud and Tapash Baisya shared an unbeatean 54-run stand against Sri Lanka in 2005.
3 – Shakib also scripted his third-best figures of 5/36 in 219 ODI innings. His spells of 5/29 against Afghanistan in 2019 and 5/30 against Zimbabwe in 2021 are in the top two spots.
