Champions Trophy 2025: 3 records that might get broken in final
India and New Zealand are all set to clash for the coveted title on Sunday, March 9.
2. If India win, it will be the first time they defeat New Zealand in an ICC final
The upcoming final of the ongoing Champions Trophy presents a chance for India to earn their maiden triumph over the Black Caps in an ICC tournament final. So far, the two nations have battled it out against each other at two ICC finals - the Champions Trophy 2000 and the 2019-21 cycle of the World Test Championship. Both saw India ending up on the wrong side of the result.
New Zealand clinched the final of the Champions Trophy 2000 by four wickets at the Gymkhana Club Ground in Nairobi. The match went right down to the wire, with the Kiwis winning by two deliveries to spare. An unbeaten 102* by Chris Cairns earned him the Player of the Match accolade. 21 years later, the two sides met in another showdown in the final of the 2019-21 WTC. A scintillating bowling effort (5/31 in 22 overs and 2/30 in 24 overs) from Kyle Jamieson led New Zealand to an eight-wicket win.
