The thrilling Champions Trophy 2025 edition is soon approaching its business end as New Zealand (NZ) won the toss and elected to bowl first in Match 6 of the ICC mega showdown. Notably, the match was played in Rawalpindi, on Monday, February 24.
Bangladesh (BAN) started their innings with a fresh strategy and strong powerplay. Early on, the side displayed promising intent creating pressure on the Kiwis. However, momentum shifted when Tanzid Hasan, who had scored a quick 24, was dismissed inside the powerplay. This loss disrupted their plans and forced a recalibration in the early stages of the game.
Despite the setback, Bangladesh’s captain Najmul Hossain Shanto continued to guide his team with composure. Shanto’s steady innings of 77 runs off 110 balls, helped in keeping the scoreboard moving even though the team struggled to form any fifty-plus partnerships. In a bid to build a total, the middle order received a boost from Jaker Ali, who scored 45 runs in the later stages of the innings. With these contributions, Bangladesh managed to post a total of 236/6 on the board.
In response, New Zealand faced difficulties when they lost two early wickets, falling to 15/2 in just 3.3 overs. The pressure mounted until the emerging star all rounder Rachin Ravindra took control with a brilliant knock of 112 runs off 105 balls. His outstanding performance was complimented by contributions from Devon Conway with 30 runs and Tom Latham with 55 runs. Their collective effort allowed New Zealand to chase the target very smoothly, securing a 5-wicket victory to claim the top of the points table.
