Cricket World Cup 2023 isn’t compromising in delivering a great time to cricket fans with its remarkable matches. In week four, a great level of competition was witnessed by cricket lovers. From the last-over thriller between South Africa and Pakistan to the high-scoring contest between Australia and New Zealand, cricket fans got a chance to watch the sheer level of competition due to this incredible tournament.

In week four of the tournament, some players and teams broke into record books by shattering outstanding feats while a few names will also regret becoming the owners of infamous feats due to their ineffective performances. Taking more about the fourth week’s cricketing action, let’s look at the World Cup records broken from October 26 to November 1.

Here are the top records broken in the World Cup's fourth week

1. Quinton de Kock becomes the leading run-scorer for South Africa in a World Cup edition

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock is in great form in this World Cup. The southpaw is doing his job incredibly and he is currently the leading run-getter in the tournament, with 545 runs in seven matches at a magnificent strike rate of 112.60. The wicketkeeper batter hit a scintillating ton in Pune and guided his team to a 190-run win over New Zealand. After scoring his 56th run in the match, De Kock became the South African player with the most runs in a World Cup edition. He shattered former Protea player Jacques Kallis’ record of 485 runs in the World Cup 2007 edition.

2. Quinton de Kock becomes the wicketkeeper batter with the most sixes in the World Cup

In the match against New Zealand, De Kock became the owner of another amazing feat. Hitting his first six in the game, he outdid the former Australia great Adam Gilchrist to become the wicketkeeper-batter with the most maximums in the World Cup. De Kock has smashed 22 sixes in 24 outings so far while Gilchrist is on the list with 19 sixes in 31 matches.

3. Highest aggregate in a World Cup match- Australia versus New Zealand in Dharamshala

In the high-scoring match between Australia and New Zealand in Dharamshala, the former defended 388 runs successfully and emerged victorious by five runs. The match recorded the highest aggregate in a World Cup contest. Both teams jointly piled up 771 runs which helped this match better the previous best record of 754 runs scored in the South Africa and Sri Lanka encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in this tournament.

4. Pathum Nissanka becomes the only Sri Lanka opener to hit four consecutive fifties in the World Cup

Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka is looking remarkable in this World Cup. In the fourth week, the 1996 champions bagged an eight-wicket win over England and Nissanka chipped in with an unbeaten half-century to take his team home comfortably. This was Nissanka’s fourth consecutive fifty in the tournament and with this feat, he became the only Sri Lanka opener to rack up four consecutive half-centuries in the World Cup tournaments.

5. New Zealand records highest World Cup total in a losing cause

The match between Australia and New Zealand went in the former’s favour but the latter also received appreciation for following the massive target with spunk. Replying to the humongous total of 388 runs, the Black Caps could accumulate 383 runs in their 50 overs. The Kiwi side’s score became the highest World Cup total in a losing cause, breaking Sri Lanka's 344-run feat that came against Pakistan at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in this tournament.

6. Mitchell Starc bowls the most-expensive spell for Australia in the World Cup

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has failed to showcase his best with the ball for Australia. In the crucial game against New Zealand, he failed to pick up any scalps and splurged 89 runs in his nine-over spell. The speedster overshadowed his record of being the most expensive bowler for the Aussies in a World Cup contest. Before this game, he was holding the feat with 1/74 figures (10 overs) against India in the World Cup 2019.
