How does Virat Kohli's record compare with Sachin Tendulkar's after 299 ODIs?

Star Indian batter Virat Kohli once again registered his name in the history books, becoming the fastest batter to reach 14,000 ODI runs during India's recent Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Pakistan.
His unbeaten 100 off 111 balls not only helped his side secure a six-wicket victory but also triggered comparisons with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Meanwhile, Kohli is set to play his 300th ODI against New Zealand on Sunday, March 2. If Kohli's records are compared to that of Tendulkar's, here is how the numbers stand.
After 299 ODIs, Kohli has scored 14,085 runs at an average of 58.20 and a strike rate of 93.41 in 287 innings with 51 centuries and 73 half-centuries and a highest score of 183. In contrast, Tendulkar had scored 11,537 runs in 290 innings at an average of 44.20 and a strike rate of 86.64, with 33 centuries and 56 fifties.
The Delhi-born's brilliance is particularly evident in chases. He has played 158 innings while batting second, scoring 7979 runs at an average of 64.34 and a strike rate of 93.33. His ability to anchor and finish matches makes him a modern-day great. On the other hand, Tendulkar had batted 147 times in ODI chases, scoring 5815 runs at an average of 46.15 and a strike rate of 91.07.
Kohli has had a huge impact on India's victories. In 105 ODI matches India have won while chasing, Kogli has scored 5913 runs in 99 innings at an average of 89.59 and a strike rate of 96.74. He has struck 24 centuries and 25 half-centuries, with only four of his tons coming in losses.
On the other hand, Tendulkar was part of 82 ODI wins while chasing after 299 matches. He contributed 3835 runs in 79 innings at an average of 66.12 and a strike rate of 92.03, with 13 centuries and 19 fifties. While his famous 143 against Australia in Sharjah in 1998 came in a losing cause, it was instrumental in India reaching the final, which India eventually won.
Furthermore, Kohli is just 4341 runs behind Tendulkar's overall tally of runs in ODIs. Now, he is all set to feature in his 300th ODI against the Kiwis, a team he has scored more than 1645 runs in 31 matches. The last time the two sides faced each other was in semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup in Mumbai, where he scored his 50th hundred, surpassing Tendulkar's record 49 tons.
