India vs Australia, 1st T20I Stats Preview: Players records and approaching milestones
Old foes India and Australia are all set to renew their rivalry in an exciting three-match T20I series before both gear up for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
After the disappointment of not qualifying for the final of the Asia Cup, India is set to face Australia and South Africa for limited-overs series on home soil. First up, Rohit Sharma and his side will lock horns with Aaron Finch’s Australia in a three-match T20I series beginning on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the PCA IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The second and the final matches will take place on the 23rd and 25th in Nagpur and Hyderabad respectively.
The eighth edition of the T20 World Cup is slated to begin on October 16 in Australia. The winners of the 2007 inaugural competition, India, and the defending champions, Australia, will see this series as a perfect opportunity to prepare for the global event. Though both teams will have another crack in this format before the World Cup as India faces the Proteas and the Aussies are set to contest with West Indies and England down under.
Speaking about the squads, India welcomed back their premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel after injury. Mohammed Shami, who was originally selected, has been ruled out after testing COVID-19 positive, with Umesh Yadav named his replacement. Deepak Chahar also finds himself in the squad.
Meanwhile, for the visitors, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, and Mitchell Marsh will be missing the series due to their injuries while David Warner has been rested. The Aussies have selected hard-hitting Tim David and he looks all set to make his Australia debut.
