Indian dressing room would be worried after getting conquered by Nathan Lyon’s dominance in the third Test in Indore. The action now moves to Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where both India and Australia will be facing each other for one last time in the four-match Test series on 9th March, 2023.

Speaking about the third Test, India won the toss for the first time in the series and opted to bat. Indian batters, in the first innings, succumbed to Australia’s spin dominance as they were bundled out for 109 within 34 overs. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were the only two batters to cross the 20-run mark for India.

In response to 109, Australia were all out for 197 runs after eking out a lead of 88 runs in the first innings. Usman Khawaja was brilliant for Australia as he notched up his 21st fifty. Ravindra Jadeja picked up the first four wickets and then the duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Umesh Yadav ran through Australia’s lower order picking up 6 wickets while giving away just 11 runs. Ashwin and Yadav equally shared the six wickets between themselves, picking up 3 each.

In the second innings, as India started the proceedings with an 88-run deficit, Nathan Lyon made the way even more rugged for the hosts as he brought the Indian batters crumbling down with his fiery spell. Lyon registered his second-best figures of 8/64. Cheteshwar Pujara gathered all his experience to not only survive Lyon and his teammates but also keep accumulating scores on the board. Pujara notched up his 35th half-century and tenth in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia eventually bowled India out for 163 which left them with a target of 76.

Australia lost Khawaja in the first over, but Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne played with caution to hand Australia their first win in the four-match series. This confirmed their place in the WTC Final for the 2021-23 leg.

As India faces Australia on Thursday, they, too, would be keen to travel to The Oval as they are now one win away from confirming both the series and a berth in the WTC Final. Any result other than a win for India in the final Test would see them stand eliminated unless the results of Sri Lanka's matches go in their favor.
