Speaking about how day three panned out, veteran James Anderson etched his name into the history books by bagging his 700th wicket in the oldest format of the game. The 41-year-old pacer did the job by taking Kuldeep’s wicket. Notably, he became the first seamer to reach the milestone of 700 scalps in Test cricket. In reply, Joe Root played a lone hand of 84 off 128 which included 12 fours while wickets kept falling at the other end. Ashwin dismissed Stokes for the 13th time in this format as the latter ended a disastrous series, managing only 199 runs in ten innings.
Jonny Bairstow played a quickfire knock of 39 off 31 with three fours and as many maximums before falling prey to Kuldeep. Ashwin ended with figures of 5/77 in his 14-over spell as the visitors got bowled out for just 195.
