India vs New Zealand 1st Test, Day 2 Stats Review: India's lowest team total at home and other stats

India won the toss and chose to bat first on an overcast morning at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and that was pretty much the only thing that went right for them on a day of new lows. New Zealand's seamers, especially Will O'Rourke (4 for 22) and Matt Henry (5 for 15), made use of the helpful conditions and skittled India out for just 46. Only two Indian players managed to get to double figures, and as many as five players registered ducks. India's innings lasted just 31.2 overs and New Zealand didn't even need to bowl a single ball of spin. 

New Zealand's charge was led by Devon Conway (91 off 105). Helped by some sloppy fielding by the Indians, Conway counter-attacked India's charge but his partners could not convert their starts. Rest of the New Zealand line-up was more measured in their battting and the Kiwis finished at 180/3 in 50 overs with a lead of 134.

2 - Virat Kohli went past MS Dhoni as India's second most capped player in international cricket. This was Kohli's 536th match in international cricket, going past 535 played by MS Dhoni. Dhoni also played 3 ODIs for Asia XI. Sachin Tendulkar stands at the top of the pile with 664 matches. 

3 - 46 is India's third lowest total in Test cricket behind the 42 at Lord's in 1974 and the 36 at Adelaide in 2020. 

1 - 46 is by some distance, India's lowest total at home in Tests. The previous lowest was 75 against West Indies at Delhi in 1997. 

2 - This was the second time that five Indian batters had made ducks in an innings at home. The last time was also against New Zealand, at Mohali in 1999. 

4 - India's 46 is the fourth lowest total by a team winning the toss and choosing to bat first. 

3 & 7 - India's total of 46 is the third lowest total by a team at home in the first innings, and the seventh lowest by any team at home. 

1 - India's 46 is the lowest total against New Zealand in Tests. The previous lowest was 51 by Zimbabwe at Napier in 2012. 

1 - India's 46 is also the lowest total by any team in Asia. The previous record of 53 was jointly held by West Indies and Pakistan. 

2012 - The last time that pacers from a visiting team took all 10 wickets in an innings in India. This instance was also effected by New Zealand at Bengaluru. 

2008 - The last time that any team didn't bowl a single ball of spin in an innings in India. South Africa had needed only their pacers to dismiss India for 76 in just 20 overs at Ahmedabad.
