IPL 2024: Match 52, Stats Review: Fastest IPL fifty for RCB, Fastest to 10,000 T20 runs and other stats from RCB vs GT
RCB defeated GT at Bengaluru in a topsy-turvy match and moved to 7th on the points table.
In a quite topsy-turvy match, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) managed to win their third match in a row, and move to the seventh spot in the (Indian Premier League) IPL 2024 points table, as they beat Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 52 of the ongoing season.
RCB elected to bowl first and the decision seemed to be the right one when Mohammad Siraj(2 for 29)'s double strike in the powerplay reduced GT to 23/3 in that phase of the match. M Shahrukh Khan(37 off 24), David Miller(30 off 20) and Rahul Tewatia(35 off 21) brought GT back to the game, but with Cameron Green(1 for 28), Yash Dayal(2 for 21) and Vijaykumar Vyshak(2 for 23) sharing the spoils with Siraj, GT were bowled out for 147.
RCB started the chase in sublime fashion with skipper Faf du Plessis(64 off 23) at his destructive best putting up an opening partnership of 92 with Virat Kohli(42 off 27). And that is when the chaos started. In a collapse orchestrated by Joshua Little(4 for 45) and Noor Ahmad(2 for 23), RCB slipped from 92/0 to 117/6 in a space of just five overs. But du Plessis had done too much damage in the powerplay for this collapse to pose a very serious threat to Dinesh Karthik and Swapnil Singh who saw RCB home with 38 balls to spare.
Here are all the vital stats from the RCB vs GT IPL 2024 match:
1 - Gujarat Titan's 23/3 is the lowest powerplay total in IPL 2024, and the lowest ever by GT.
24 - This was the 24th instance of RCB bowling out the opposition in the IPL, which is now the joint-second most that a team has bowled out the opposition alongside CSK. MI lead the chart with 35 such instances.
6 - At 349 innings, Faf du Plessis became the 6th fastest player to 10000 T20 runs by innings. Babar Azam(271), Chris Gayle(285), Virat Kohli(299), David Warner(303) and Aaron Finch(327) got there before him.
