IPL 2024: Team-wise stats and records at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

MA Chidambaram Stadium is the home ground of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. The stadium is also known as Chepauk, the name adapted from where it is located. It is also India's second oldest venue, established in 1916.  

The pitch at Chepauk has something for both batters and bowlers, but tends to slow down as the game goes on so batting second at this venue is difficult when teams tend to chase targets over 160. Super-kings have a brilliant home record of 70.31 percent, which is the most by an IPL team on their home ground. 

MA Chidambaram Stadium IPL Stats & records: 

Teams batting first have won more games (48) than those teams chasing (37) in 87 matches played here. Fast bowlers have been more successful with 586 wickets at an average of 28.30 compared to spinners who took 370 wickets at an average of 27.60. The average score for the first innings at this venue is 165 runs. 

As of now, the Super-Kings have played a total of 73 IPL matches at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, in which they have won 51 times and lost on 22 occasions. This indicates Super King's home dominance, which is also one reason for their consistent performance over the years. CSK struggled a little bit in 2024 and 2025, but their fortress stands virtually intact for the most part. 

2. Mumbai Indians (MI) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium:

After the hosts, MI has played the most number of games at this venue. They have played 16 matches overall and managed to win eight games and lost eight. Notably, five of those eight wins have come against CSK which is the most by an IPL team against CSK at their home ground. 

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

RCB has a decent record at Chepauk in 14 matches played at this venue, they have won six and lost right. Of these six win, only two are against CSK. Their other wins at Chepauk came against MI (twice), SRH, and KKR in 2021 when the India leg of the season was played completely on neutral grounds. 

4. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

In 15 matches played at this venue, KKR managed to win five games and lose ten. Two of those five wins were in the respective IPL finals in 2012 and 2024. 

5. Delhi Capitals (DC) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

Despite playing 11 matches, the Delhi Capitals (DC) have only managed to win four, losing the remaining seven. Interestingly, three of their four victories came while batting second, with the other win coming in a Super Over. 

6. Punjab Kings (PBKS) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

PBKS has a decent record at Chepauk so far. In ten matches played, they have won five and lost five with one coming from defending total and another win coming in a Super Over. 

7. Rajasthan Royals (RR) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

Rajasthan Royals have an abysmal record at Chepauk. Despite playing ten matches they have only been able to win twice and lost the rest of the rest. 

8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

SRH has pretty much the worst record of any team in Chepauk so far. SRH have managed just 2 wins in 12 matches at this stadium, and neither were against CSK. SRH beat PBKS in 2021 and RR in the second qualifier of the 2024 season here. They also lost to DC in a SuperOver here in 2021. 

9. Gujarat Titans (GT) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

Gujarat Titans (GT), the champions of IPL 2022, have lost both the matches they have played in Chennai so far. The first of these two matches was the first qualifier of the 2023 season where they lost to CSK. In 2024, the Titans lost a league stage game against the same opposition at this ground. 

10. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) IPL Stats at MA Chidambaram Stadium: 

Lucknow Super Giants lost their first two games at Chepauk. These include the eliminator of the 2023 season which they lost to MI. But, in 2024, LSG pulled off the highest successful chase in IPL matches at Chepauk.
