IPL 2025: CSK vs MI, Match 3 - Stats preview of players' records and approaching milestones
The "El Clásico" of IPL will be played as early as match 3 in 2025.
The "El Clásico" returns as Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians go head-to-head in Match No. 3 of Indianl Premier League 2025.
As with most other teams, the two most successful franchises in IPL history aim to compete with overhauled squads retaining the same cores. Among all personnel changes, the ones that made the most waves were R Ashwin's return to CSK after 9 years and the transfer of CSK bowling mainstay Deepak Chahar to MI.
Both sides had a tough time at IPL 2024 where neither made the playoffs. MI were embroiled in off-field controversy throughout the season and finished last. Chennai, meanwhile, had a very up-and-down season and eventually fell out of the top 4 at the final hurdle with a thrilling loss to RCB.
Both teams will look to put 2024 behind them and start the season afresh with a victory over their respective storied arch-rivals. MI though, will have to start the season without regular skipper Hardik Pandya. Pandya is serving a ban for an over-rate offence that has rolled over from the last season. India's full-time T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will take over the reins.
