IPL 2025: MI vs CSK, Match 38: Stats Review of player records and achieved milestones
MI beat CSK by nine wickets in Mumbai on Sunday, April 20.
In the 38th match of the ongoing IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, hosts Mumbai Indians (MI) delivered a powerful statement with a commanding nine-wicket win over the arch-rivals, Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, MI executed their plan to perfection, restricting CSK to 176/5 and then chasing down the target in just 15.4 overs.
Batting first, CSK got off to a shaky start. Rachin Ravindra fell early, followed by Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed in quick succession. Debutant Mhatre showed promise with a quick 32 runs off 15 balls but failed to capitalise. The middle order brought some stability, with Ravindra Jadeja anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 53* off 35 balls. Shivam Dube smashed 50 off just 32 balls, showcasing his power once again. Despite these efforts, MI’s bowlers kept CSK in check.
Jasprit Bumrah was clinical with figures of 2/25, dismissing Dube and MS Dhoni at crucial junctures. Mitchell Santner (1/14) and Deepak Chahar (1/32) also chipped in with tight spells.
In response, MI’s chase was nothing short of brutal. Ryan Rickelton gave the team a stable start with 24 off 19 before falling to Jadeja. What followed was a batting masterclass from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit smashed a scintillating 76* off 45 balls, laced with 4 fours and 6 sixes. Suryakumar was even more destructive, racing to 68* off just 30 balls, including 5 sixes of his own.
The duo put on an unbeaten 114-run stand, tearing apart CSK’s bowling unit. None of the Chennai bowlers could contain the flow of runs, with Pathirana being the most expensive, leaking 34 runs in just 1.4 overs. Mumbai chased down the target with 26 balls to spare, sealing a thumping win and giving their playoff hopes a strong boost.
