A sensational captain’s knock from Sam Curran along with a magical cameo from Harpreet Singh Bhatia, followed by a lethal bowling display from Arshdeep Singh saw Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by a margin of 13 runs in match number 31 of Indian Premier League 2023 at Wankhede Stadium.

The toss belonged to the hosts, as Rohit & Co. decided to field first. Cameron Green drew the first blood as Matthew Short departed for 11 runs off 10 balls after hitting a couple of boundaries. However, Prabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide kept the scoreboard ticking by adding 47 runs for the second wicket. Arjun Tendulkar broke the partnership with an unplayable yorker which brought Singh's innings to an end.

Piyush Chawla then joined hands with other bowlers as he cleaned up Taide and also ended the short stay of Liam Livingstone by firing the ball wide of leg-stump.

Harpreet Singh Bhatia and Sam Curran led the recovery for Punjab as the duo added 92 runs for the fifth wicket. Arjun Tendulkar was taken to the cleaners in the 16th over as they smacked him for 31 runs. Green and Archer too were being smacked by the duo, although Cameron Green had the last laugh as he cleaned up Harpreet in the 18th over. Sam Curran, meanwhile, registered his maiden fifty in IPL 2023, as he was then partnered by Jitesh Sharma, who played a sensational seven-ball 25-run cameo to help PBKS post 214/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing 215, MI lost Ishan Kishan early on, courtesy of bowling brilliance from Arshdeep Singh. However, skipper Rohit Sharma and Cameron Green kept the chase going by adding 76 runs for the second wicket. Rohit scored 44 runs from 27 balls before getting dismissed by Liam Livingstone in the 10th over. Suryakumar Yadav then joined hands with Green as they added 75 runs for the third wicket. Cameron Green registered his second IPL fifty before getting dismissed for 67 runs amassed in 43 deliveries.

The game witnessed a vintage Suryakumar Yadav show as he registered his fastest IPL fifty in just 23 balls. Cameo from Tim David at the end was not sufficient for MI to go past the finish line as Arshdeep Singh held on the nerves with his execution of the yorker to perfection eventually helping PBKS beat MI by 13 runs.

Meanwhile, let us look at the stats and numbers from the game between MI and PBKS:
