New Zealand vs Afghanistan, ODI World Cup 2023, Match 16: Stats Preview of Players' Records and Approaching Milestones
Mitchell Santner is just one scalp away from reaching the landmark of 100 ODI wickets.
One of the most in-form teams in the tournament, high-flying New Zealand(NZ) collide with Afghanistan(AFG) in Match number 16 of the ongoing sixteenth edition of the World Cup. The encounter is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 18th, 2023 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The confident-looking Afghan side will also enter the contest after their memorable and historic victory over defending champions England in their previous match in Delhi.
Speaking about the finalists of the last two World Cups in 2015 and 2019, the Kiwis have begun their campaign in a typical New Zealand way. Known to be solidly consistent in ICC events, they have won their opening three fixtures against England, Netherlands, and Bangladesh. Not only they have sealed victories, but they won all three contests comfortably and convincingly.
Kane Williamson, their regular skipper who returned in the last game from injury, suffered another setback as he got hit by a throw from a Bangladeshi fielder on his thumb. Williamson will require more rest and precaution to be able to part in the later part of the campaign. Tom Latham will don the captaincy hat again with the BlackCaps now looking to make it four in four before they come up against India in a mouth-watering clash on the 22nd. The Afghans, who are on a high after beating England will look to be competitive for the second game running.
