In a seesaw battle in Ahmedabad, Australia clinched a 33-run victory over England, powered by a brilliant bowling performance from Mitchell Starc and an economical spell from Adam Zampa with the most wickets. Before the bowlers took charge, Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green played significant roles, helping Australia set a competitive total.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, England dismissed both openers with just 38 runs on the board. Following that, Smith and Labuschagne formed a partnership of 75 runs. Before departing, Smith contributed 44 runs to the total. Subsequently, Green and Labuschagne had a brief partnership of 61 runs, with Labuschagne scoring 71 runs before ending his classical innings. In the final stages, Zampa played a cameo role, adding 29 runs to help the Kangaroos reach a competitive total of 286 runs in 49.3 overs. In the bowling department, Chris Woakes took 4 wickets, while Adil Rashid and Mark Wood each picked up 2 wickets.

In response, England faced an early setback when Jonny Bairstow was dismissed for a duck by Starc. Shortly after, Joe Root was also out, scoring just 13 runs, once again a victim of Starc's delivery. Ben Stokes played a resilient innings, accumulating 64 runs from 90 balls, including two fours and three sixes. Moeen Ali contributed 42 runs from 43 balls with six fours. Despite the efforts of Stokes and Moeen, England lost wickets at regular intervals. In the final stages of the innings, Chris Woakes scored 32 runs, and Adil Rashid added 20 runs to their attempt to win the match. However, their efforts fell short, and England was eventually bowled out for 253 runs, resulting in a defeat. Adam Zampa claimed three wickets, while Starc, Hazlewood, and Cummins secured two wickets each. For his outstanding performance, Adam Zampa was awarded the Player of the Match.
