Adam Zampa has now taken the most wickets (22) by an Australian spinner in a World Cup campaign.
Mitchell Marsh registered his highest score of an unbeaten 177 while David Warner and Steven Smith also registered their respective half-centuries as Australia thrashed Bangladesh by eight wickets in the ODI World Cup clash in Pune. Chasing 307, the Kangaroos completed the job in 44.4 overs and will now face South Africa in the semi-final in Kolkata on November 16.
Speaking about how the match panned out, skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first. The top seven Bangladeshi players all got starts as each one of them crossed the 20-run mark. Youngster Towhid Hridoy top-scored for his side with his knock of 74 off 79. Stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 45 while openers Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan amassed 36 runs each.
In reply, Travis Head got dismissed for just ten but Warner and Marsh kept going. The former got out for 53 off 61 while Smith remained unbeaten on 63 off 64. Marsh faced 132 deliveries in his 177-run knock which included 17 fours and nine maximums. He grabbed the Player of the Match award for his outstanding and blistering innings.

22 – Adam Zampa has now taken the most wickets (22) by an Australia spinner in a World Cup campaign. He surpassed Brad Hogg’s tally of 21 scalps, which he took in the 2007 edition.
307/2 – Australia scripted their highest successful run-chase of 307/2 in World Cups. Their previous best of 293/7 came against Afghanistan in Mumbai (WS) in the ongoing World Cup.
11 – David Warner and Steven Smith are now joint-top with Ricky Ponting for hitting 11 fifty-plus scores for Australia in the history of World Cups.
177* - Marsh also achieved the highest individual score of 177* against Bangladesh in the marquee tournament. He went past Virender Sehwag’s score of 175 in the 2011 edition.
0/85 – Nasum Ahmed conceded the second-most runs (0/85) for Bangladesh in a World Cup innings. Abdur Razzak leaked 86 runs for one wicket against Sri Lanka in 2007.
18026 – Warner completed the milestone of 18000 runs as an opener in international cricket.
9 – Marsh is now joint-second for smashing nine maximums for Australia in a World Cup innings. Marsh himself hit nine along with Warner (also nine), both against Pakistan in the ongoing campaign. Glenn Maxwell tops the chart with 10 sixes against Afghanistan in Mumbai in this World Cup.
20 - The Aussies have defeated the Bangla Tigers in 20 ODIs out of the 22 played.
175* - Marsh and Steven Smith recorded the second-highest partnership of 175* for any wicket in Australia-Bangladesh ODIs. Usman Khawaja and Warner shared a 192-run stand in the 2019 edition, which remains the highest.
307 – Australia recorded the second-highest target of 307 successfully achieved against the Bangla Tigers in ODIs. Pakistan are on top, having chased 327 in Mirpur in 2014.
