PAK vs ENG 2024: Root, Brook achieve unprecedented feat with record stand in Multan Test
The pair racked up the runs as well as misery for a hapless Pakistani bowling attack in the ongoing Test in Multan.
England's ace duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook toppled a plethora of records in the first Test of the three-match series against Pakistan in Multan. A mammoth 454-run partership for the fourth wicket meant they scripted an unprecedented record as this was the maiden instance in Test cricket that two batters amassed 450-plus runs for the fourth wicket.
The duo surpassed the 448-run partnership between Adam Voges and Shaun Marsh against West Indies in 2015. Meanwhile, another record was splintered as the duo now holds the record for the biggest partnership in Test cricket for any wicket in an away Test.
Speaking of the all-time record for the highest partnership in Test cricket for any wicket, the same is held by the Sri Lankan pair of Mahela Jayawarden and Kumar Sangakkara, who put together a whopping 624 runs against South Africa in 2006.

Earlier on Wednesday, Root surpassed the great Alastair Cook to become England's leading run-getter in Tests. In a video posted after Stumps on Day 3, Root said that there were more runs for the taking. He also spoke on England's chances of coming out as victors.
"I am obviously proud, but still feel there's plenty more left to do, plenty of runs to get. I am sure I will look back at it when I am finished and be very proud of it, but I think more than anything just the way we played today as a team is what stands out. We still have an opportunity to win the game, which is really exciting. Hopefully, we can kick on tomorrow," stated Root, as per a clip posted by England Cricket on X after Stumps on Day 3.
