Skipper Faf du Plessis continued his red-hot form as he smashed 62 off 39, while Glenn Maxwell hammered 77 off just 44 as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by a margin of seven runs in match 32 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Bangalore. Du Plessis hit his fifth half-century in seven innings as he is the Orange Cap holder with 405 runs to his name so far.
Talking about how the battle of the Royals unfolded, captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to field first. Virat Kohli captained yet again and got out plumb LBW to Trent Boult off the first delivery of the match. Shahbaz Ahmed got dismissed for just two, but it was the duo of Du Plessis-Maxwell that stole the show with their 127-run stand for the third wicket. The home side managed to reach a competitive total of 189/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Boult and Sandeep Sharma picked up two wickets apiece.
In reply, Jos Buttler got bowled for a duck off the bowling of the in-form Mohammed Siraj. Left-handers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Devdutt Padikkal struck 47 and 52 runs, respectively. The latter brought up his first IPL half-century in 16 innings. Skipper Samson scored 22 while Dhruv Jurel fought with his knock of 34*, but it wasn’t enough as the hosts restricted the visitors to 182/6. Harshal Patel was the pick of the RCB bowlers for his spell of 3/32 (4).
