A bowling all-rounder hailing from Palghar, Maharashtra, Shardul Thakur was born on October 16, 1991. He caught the eyes of the selector when he took eight wickets in the Ranji Trophy finals in 2015/16. Shardul Thakur made his ODI debut in 2017 against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

He was economical in debut, ending up his figures at 1/26 in 7 overs. Thakur has taken 63 wickets in 43 innings at an average of 30.34 and has struck at 29.1.

Shardul Thakur has earned his place in the squad with some scintillating performances in the last three to four years for India in the ODI formats. He has been among the wickets for India since the ODI World Cup 2019, and he has got knack for breaking partnerships with his slower deliveries.

Thakur has picked 57 wickets in 38 innings at an average of 28.30 and has struck at 27.4 since the ODI World Cup 2019; he was the first Indian bowler with 50 plus wickets in the last three years. Not to forget, he is also handy with the bat and could change the course of the game in any situation.

In 18 innings batted at number eight, Thakur has scored 215 runs, and all those runs have come at the strike rate of 114.36. He was instrumental in CSK’s success in 2021, ending the season as the leading wicket-taker for CSK with 21 wickets at an impressive strike rate of 17.09. He was surprisingly released by CSK in 2022, while Delhi bought him for a high budget. In IPL 2023, Thakur was traded to KKR from Delhi Capitals.
