T20 WC 2022 Match 35 Stats Review: Litton Das’ feat, India’s highest total against Bangladesh in T20Is, and other stats
Virat Kohli is now the leading run-scorer (1065) in the history of T20 World Cup competitions.
Virat Kohli’s yet another half-century, his third of the campaign, overshadowed Litton Das’s whirlwind innings of 60 off just 27 as India registered a famous five-run victory by DL method over Bangladesh in Match 35 at the Adelaide Oval. Kohli struck an unbeaten 64 off 44 with eight fours and a six while KL Rahul also returned to form with his half-century. The Men in Blue recorded their highest total of 184/6 in 20 overs before rain reduced the target to 151 in 16 overs for Bangladesh. A terrible collapse from the Bangla Tigers post-rain-break saw them fall short of the target narrowly.
Speaking about how the exciting contest panned out, skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to field first in chilly conditions. India captain Rohit Sharma went cheaply for just two but his opening partner Rahul struck form. He amassed 50 off 32 with three fours and four maximums. Suryakumar Yadav played another eye-catching innings of 30 off 16 while Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik managed single-digit scores. The run-machine Kohli kept going yet again and recorded his third fifty in four matches in this edition.
Chasing 185, Litton Das came out with all guns blazing as he smashed the Indian bowlers all around the park. The right-handed batter brought up his half-century in just 21 deliveries, the second-fastest by a Bangladeshi in the format. Courtesy of Das, Bangladesh cruised to 60/0 after the completion of the powerplay. With the score at 66/0 after seven overs, the heavens opened up as the match got stalled.
After the rain stopped, the Bangla Tigers were set a target of 151 in 16 overs and then the Indian team triggered a collapse on their opposition. Rahul got Das run out from a direct hit and from there on it was all about the Men in Blue. Bangladesh lost wickets in clusters as they did a Déjà vu of Bangalore 2016. For his match-winning fifty, Kohli grabbed the Player of the Match award.
