IND vs ENG 2025: Virat Kohli fails to go past Sachin Tendulkar's elite record
Virat Kohli is just 12 runs away from breaking Tendulkar's record for most runs against England in international cricket.
The second ODI between India and England got underway on Sunday, February 09 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack with the latter scoring 304 in the first innings after Jos Buttler opted to bat first. Dynamic batter Virat Kohli, who had missed the series opener in Nagpur, returned as Yashasvi Jaiswal made way for the senior pro.
Ahead of the game, the chase master, as Kohli is popularly called, was just 12 runs short of becoming the Indian cricketer with most runs against England across all formats of the game. Legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for most runs for India against The Three Lions, with 3990 runs across 90 matches. However, Kohli who had the opportunity to come on top today, was dismissed for just five runs by Adil Rashid, getting him caught off the wicketkeeper Phil Salt in the 20th over of the chase.
Next player in the list as the third-highest runs for India versus England is the former wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni, who retired with 2999 runs from 93 outings with the bat.
