Earlier, it was reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials had approached the Cricket West Indies (CWI) to prepone the schedule of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), to make room for the second leg of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is going to be played in UAE. After a lot of deliberation, CWI has now agreed to BCCI’s request and preponed the Caribbean carnival.

An interesting thing to note is that the CPL schedule was already out as the ninth edition was about to begin on 28 August with the final to be played on September 19. Later, the BCCI conducted a Special General Meeting (SGM) on May 29 and sealed the fate of IPL.

After that, the BCCI were contemplating on what date to start the tournament, as the Indian team will be on an overseas tour to England. They finally agreed to start IPL on September 19, the same date as to when originally the CPL was about to conclude.

Now, the new agreement was agreed upon by the BCCI and CPL authorities. Initially, reluctant to not change the date of the CPL, the CWI had to finally give in after Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, spoke to CWI to accommodate IPL. “CWI is doing our best to help facilitate a smooth transition from CPL to IPL, without a conflicting overlap,” Ricky Skerritt, the president of CWI, told Cricbuzz confirming the proposed changes in the schedule.

CPL 2021 to start from August 25

The agreement between CWI and BCCI has now been finalized and there is a slight tweak in the CPL 2021 schedule. Now, the league will start on August 25 and end on September 15, allowing IPL to start as per its original date. Now, there won’t be any overlapping between both the tournaments and the West Indies players, and various other players who are part of CPL, as well as IPL, can play both the leagues, after a quick quarantine period.

The CPL authorities are also getting ready with the logistics because the West Indies players will now have to move from the national bubble to their respective franchise bubbles as they will just finish their Pakistan series.
