Cricket West Indies (CWI), on Saturday, released their reserve list for the upcoming World Cup which is set to get underway on May 30. 10 players are on standby and the most interesting name which raised many eyebrows was of Dwayne Bravo who announced his international retirement last year in October. Moreover, Windies will also play an extra warm-up game against Australia on May 22 at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

Among the reserve players, Kieron Pollard and Bravo are the only two cricketers to have not played for Windies for a long time. The others were a part of the team which played the recently concluded tri-series in Ireland also involving Bangladesh. Windies reached the final of the tournament and lost to the Asian side in a rain-truncated contest. Sunil Ambris, Roston Chase, Raymon Reifer are few names among the reserve players’ list who impressed in the tri-series.

Skill set in this pool is strong

The Interim Chairman of selectors Robert Haynes was delighted to have such talented players in the reserves list. Windies now cover all the bases going into the World Cup according to him and even an injury to some of the players will have a proper and quick replacement.

“The choice of players in the reserve list is to really cover our bases and ensure we have a good balance in the pool of players that can be selected if replacements are required. We think the skill set in this pool is strong with a good blend of experience and upcoming young players who can be ready to contribute when required,” he said according to CWI’s official website.

Sunil Ambris and Raymon Reifer will travel to Southampton with the team as they have been called up as cover for the camp in Southampton. Evin Lewis has recently recovered from a viral infection and Ambris will cover up for him while Reifer will cover for the bowling group as a part of workload management.

Despite all the comments, there was no explanation on why Dwayne Bravo was included in the reserve list. Is the all-rounder coming back from his retirement if there is an injury to someone? Only the officials and Bravo can answer all these questions.

Here’s the reserve list: Sunil Ambris, Dwayne Bravo, John Campbell, Jonathan Carter, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich, Keemo Paul, Khary Pierre, Raymon Reifer, Kieron Pollard.
