Cricketer Josh Downie passes away after suffering a heart attack in a net session

At the age of just 24, cricketer Joshua Downie passed away due to a sudden heart attack while he was in a net session. Downie is the brother of Olympic gymnasts Becky Downie and Ellie Downie.

Even though Joshua Downie was provided with CPR, he succumbed. Joshua’s mother Helen stated that she will miss her son forever. Adding that the cricketer just collapsed and never regained his consciousness, Helen added that an ambulance took the cricketer to the hospital and he never woke up after that.

Helen also said that it doesn’t seem real that her son is not with her anymore. She concluded by stating that she had some lovely times with her son.

“He was beautiful inside and out. I will miss him forever. He apparently stumbled and collapsed and never regained consciousness. An ambulance came and took him to hospital but he never woke up again.

He had just moved in September for his new job after graduating. It does not seem real at all that he’s gone. He would have been 25 in July. He loved his family, his girlfriend, sport, animals. We always had such lovely good times together,” said Helen to BBC.

Joshua Downie’s sister reacts to his death

Joshua Downie’s sister, Becky stated that no words can describe the immense pain that the family is undergoing at the moment. She concluded by stating that the world is cruel and Joshua was such an amazing brother.

“No words can describe the pain we as a family are all feeling right now. The world is so cruel sometimes… Josh, you were the most amazing brother. We will forever be the Downie 5,” said Becky Downie.

The Nottinghamshire Cricket Board Premier League also issued a statement. The statement stated that the NPL community is saddened about the news of Downie’s death at the age of 24, and concluded by offering its condolences to Joshua Downie’s family.

“Everybody within the NPL community is incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Josh Downie, aged just 24. Our deepest thoughts go out to Josh’s family at this time, as well as all of those who knew him from his spells with Hucknall CC and Fiskerton & Thurgarton CC,” concluded the statement.
