Cricketers and their favourite hunting ground
From Sachin's affair with Sydney and Virat's love for Adelaide, a look at cricketers and their favourite places to prey,
5. Anil Kumble at Ferozshah Kotla, Delhi
The ‘Jumbo’ of Indian cricket, highest wicket-taker for Indian in Test, Anil Kumble, achieved his phenomenal feat of claiming all the 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan in 1999 at the Ferozshah Kotla, Delhi.
The ground in Delhi has been a favourite hunting ground for Anil Kumble as he filled in his boots with 58 wickets in kitty during the span of 7 Tests, at an average 16.79. The former Indian Head coach clinched an incredible four 5-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket match hauls
6. Kumar Sangakkara/ Mahela Jayawardena/Muttiah Muralitharan at Colombo SSC
The pillars for Sri Lankan cricket for almost two decades, the trio of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena and Muttiah Muralitharan made sure that Colombo SSC was their shared hunting ground. The ground is remembered for the famous 624 runs stand between Kumar Sangakkara (287) and Mahela Jayawardena (374) against South Africa in 2006. Their stand still remains the highest in terms of runs including both Test and FC Cricket.
Sangakkara has accumulated a whopping 2312 runs in 22 Test at Colombo SSC while averaging 74.58 with 8 centuries and 7 fifties. Only the class of Mahela Jayawardena could overhaul the tally of Sangakkara. The elegant right-hander aggregates 2921 runs in 27 Tests at an average of 74.89 with 11 centuries and 9 fifties. His colossal tally of runs in Colombo still is the highest in Test Cricket at a particular venue.
While Sanga and Mahela handled the Lankan onslaught with the bat, the spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan carried a firm stranglehold on the visitors with the ball. Murali has preyed on 166 batsmen in the 24 Tests he has played at the venue, which yet again is the most by any player in Test cricket at a specific venue.
To top it all, the spin king has 14 five-wicket hauls and four 10-wicket match hauls at an average of 20.69, thereby makings SSC his hunting ground along with Sanga and Mahela.
