Former Indian Test captain and current coach, Anil Kumble has turned 46 today. Cricketing legend, who is counted as one the greatest bowlers of the game, has talking point among his teammates and the Indian cricket fraternity.

The champion leg spinner was an inspirational figure and produced many cricketing memories during his 18-year long career which began at Old Trafford in 1991. His bowling style was very different from his contemporaries like Shane Warne and Mushtaq Ahmed who played during his era.

He didn’t emphasise on turning the ball and would rather try to beat the batsman with his quicker ones and flippers. But, what made him a revered figure in the cricketing world was his courage and grit. He was a fierce competitor with a never-say-die attitude.

Anil Kumble has etched his name in the history of Indian cricket as he ended his career as India’s leading wicket-taker in both Tests and ODIs. In the 132 Test matches he played for India, Kumble scalped 619 wickets at an average of just over 29. His numbers are equally good in the limited overs format as he took 337 wickets from 271 ODIs at an average of 30.

The greatest moment in Test cricket for Kumble obviously will remain his ‘Perfect 10’ performance which came against Arch-rival Pakistan. Kumble shook the imagination of the cricketing world with an impeccable spell of 10/74 – against Pakistan at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He is only the second player in the history of the game after Jim Laker to have achieved such a feat.

Here is a collection of wishes from the cricket fraternity:
