Cricketing trends on social media today
In one of the biggest tragedies in the sports world, legendary sprinter Milkha Singh passed away.
The cricketing trends on social media revolved around the action of Indian teams. While the Indian women team pulled off a stunning draw from the jaws of defeat on the back of lower-order heroics from Sneh Rana and Taniya Bhatia, the men’s team was up against New Zealand in the World Test Championship final that got underway finally after the first day was entirely washed out.
Congratulating the women’s team on their commendable effort, Indian women cricketer Veda Krishnamurthy wrote, “Commendable stuff to come from behind to draw this match. Top innings from Sneh Rana & Taniya Bhatia. Special mention to Shafali, Deepti & rest of the girls for pulling this off.”
While former Indian batter VVS Laxman wrote, “A brilliant effort by the Indian girls to save the test match. Absolutely loved the resilience shown by Sneh Rana and earlier by Deepti Sharma. Shafali Verma certainly has a bright future ahead of her. Well done @BCCIWomen this is one to remember for a long time.” Pragyan Ojha was not behind in wishing the women’s team as he wrote, Wonderful to see the fight back from the @BCCIWomen team. Indian cricket is indeed on the right track and promises a brighter future! #INDWvsENGW
From another part of England, in Southampton, New Zealand went without a frontline spinner against India, leaving Shane Warner disappointed. “Very disappointed in Nz not playing a spinner in the #ICCWorldTestChampionship as this wicket is going to spin big with huge foot marks developing already. Remember if it seems it will spin. India make anything more than 275/300! The match is over unless weather comes in” wrote Warne.
During the 40th over of the game, there was a slight bit of controversy when Trent Boult’s appeal for caught behind against Virat Kohli was referred upstairs by the on-field umpire, leading to a confusion. Notably, it was an instance of an umpire review, and not DRS, although the third umpire Richard Kettleborough checked for the edge as well.
In one of the biggest tragedies in the sports world, legendary sprinter Milkha Singh passed away. Many cricketers paid homage to the man who was India’s pride for many years and will always remain.
