Former South Africa stalwart and fielding maestro Jonty Rhodes turned 51 on 27 July (Monday) and Twitter was flooded with wishes for him. Many former and current cricketers including Shoaib Akhtar and Yuvraj Singh extended birthday wishes to Rhodes.

Mumbai Indians also took it to Instagram and Instagram, and extended birthday wishes to their former fielding coach. Rhodes spent 9 seasons with the Mumbai Indians team before leaving the franchise in 2017. Rhodes is widely regarded as one of the best fielders to have braced the sport.

Cricket World Cup Twitter also shared the iconic fielding clip of ‘Superman’ Rhodes, where he pulled off a spectacular run out to get rid of Inzamam-ul-Haq in the 1992 World Cup. Rhodes athleticism and on-field effort were considered as second to none during the course of his playing career.

He played 245 ODIs in a career spanning over eleven years and scored 5,935 runs with an average of 35.11. In Tests, Rhodes featured in 52 Test matches and scored 2,532 runs with an average of 35.66.

Wishes also poured in for Allan Border who celebrated his 65th birthday. The Australian stalwart played 156 Test matches in his career, a record until it was passed by compatriot Steve Waugh. In an illustrious career, Border played 156 Tests and 273 ODIs and gathered 11,174 and 6524 runs respectively.

Many tweets also surfaced after Manchester United and Chelsea qualified for the Champions League on the final day of the EPL. Former England star Kevin Pietersen, an ardent Chelsea fan, also heaped praise on his favourite football club and lauded manager Frank Lampard for his achievement.
