CSA T20 League 2022: Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone in top salary bracket as 30 overseas players signed
Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone have secured a USD 500K contract with CSA T20 League.
The upcoming new South African T20 league, CSA T20, has announced the signing of 30 overseas players for the first edition on Wednesday. The star English big hitters Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone are in the top salary bracket and are expected to earn USD 500,000 each, while their national teammate Moeen Ali is expected to bag USD 400,000. Each team reportedly has a USD 2 million in a purse to sign players and is allowed to spend a maximum of USD 250,000 on each player. Any money paid above that will be a part of the franchise’s marketing cost.
CSA T20 League announced the signing of 11 English players, including former white-ball captain Eoin Morgan. Jason Roy, Sam Curran, and Will Jacks. They have secured nine West Indies players including international stars Jason Holder, Kyle Myers, Alzaari Joseph, Obed McCoy, and others. Ireland middle-order batter Harry Tector and Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham are also signed up for the CSA T20 League.
Ten Sri Lankan players including in-from stars Niroshan Dickwella and Maheesh Theeksana also make the 30 marquee players list. As expected, no Pakistani players have not been signed up for CSA T20 League, due to the league’s connection with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
CSA T20 and ILT20 battle each other for the players
Each team will have a pool of 17 players for the first season. They can sign five players, including three overseas players but not two from the same country, one international South African, and one uncapped South African, all before the auction. The auction is said to be held in the upcoming weeks as the league is looking to secure more international players.
The league consists of six new teams scheduled to take place in January 2023, which clash against UAE’s ILT20. Both the leagues are competing with each other to sign star international players and are offering attractive salaries to attract the players. All six CSA T20 teams are owned by IPL team owners and three of the six ILT20 teams share IPL owners.
