Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were crowned the champions for the third time in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last month. They defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final of the tournament and completed a dream comeback after serving a suspension of two years. Though it wasn’t easy for them given that they had to cope with the injuries to their key players. However, their skipper MS Dhoni kept his cool in the tough times and has now revealed that the team meeting of CSK before the title clash lasted for just five seconds.
They always had someone who put their hand up for the team during the crunch situations. They had to play all their matches in Pune and not Chennai due to the political issues in the State. The team of the veterans which was teased as ‘aged’ by many overcame all the difficulties and proved that the experience is needed in the shortest format of the game as well.
Roles and responsibilities were clear
MS Dhoni was speaking at an event on Monday when he gave some insights on the different kind of team meetings they used to have during the course of the tournament. He believed that there is no point to address anything if the roles and the responsibilities of every player are very clear.
“I think at that point of time, we were quite relaxed about how we’d conducted ourselves throughout the tournament. And everybody’s role and responsibilities were very clear. So, you need to address something if it really needs to be addressed. You know, there’s no point, just because if there’s a captain and a coach of the team, you’ve to say something,” the 36-year-old was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
According to Dhoni, the CSK coach, former Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming just said, “Go, get it, boys” and the meeting was over within 5 seconds. As it turned out, they triumphed on the night of the final courtesy of a spectacular ton from Shane Watson.
