CT 2017: David Miller backs AB de Villiers to score well against India on Sunday
India will play South Africa in the virtual quarterfinals on Sunday.
It was a rare failure for South African skipper AB de Villiers in his most recent appearance in the South African colors in the Champions Trophy 2017. The Proteas skipper registered his first ever golden duck in the format of the game when South Africa locked horns with Pakistan in the mega event. It was a case of a total batting collapse that saw the Proteas reel on 118/6 in 29 overs.
Had there not been a certain David Miller in the side, the match would have been more embarrassing for the Proteas team. Miller’s unbeaten 75 was a lone war that helped his side cross the 200-run mark. The Pakistani batsmen chipped in with cameos to ensure that they had their noses ahead when the rains came down. Eventually, Pakistan won the match by 19 runs with DLS method coming into the picture.
Now, with India losing to Sri Lanka in another game, the match between South Africa and India becomes the virtual quarterfinal in the tournament. The team that wins the game on Sunday shall proceed to the semi-finals. David Miller, the lone warrior of the previous game for Proteas, has backed his skipper AB de Villiers to come good against India. As per the recent quotes in Times of India, he noted that AB de Villiers is the best batsman in the world and delivers on most occasions. His departure for a duck score in the last game is not a concern for the team.
“He’s the best player in the world so it’s nice when he does perform 95 percent of the time. But I haven’t seen him go out for nought too many times in his career. He’s human. There’s enough good batsmen in the team to contribute at the same time. I don’t think it’s really a huge problem at all,” quoted David Miller.
Expect big score on Sunday
He further added that all the batsmen in the team camp are in a happy place at the moment. And AB de Villiers is surely due for a big score in the tournament and the game against India could be his day. “We’ve done well over the last two, two-and-a-half years as a top six. All the batsmen we have can do a job. AB didn’t come off but he’s definitely due (a big score) on Sunday,” said Miller.
