Big Bash League has unearthed a lot of Australian talents since its inception. There are a lot of players who have had a chance to showcase their talent. A lot of foreign players make it big in the BBL. However, the domestic players are not far behind as well. Australia has found another talent this year. A player who impressed everyone last year with a couple good knocks is back this year with a bang.
D’Arcy Short, a Hobart Hurricanes player, has surpassed everyone’s expectations. He has scored a lot of runs this year. In the nine games Short has played, he has got out in the nineties twice. He has also scored 122 not out versus Brisbane Heat on 10th of January. The Western Australian cricketer is not only good with the bat but is also handy with the ball.
His good form was rewarded as D’Arcy Short has finally got a national call-up. He is in the Australian squad for the T20 tri-series against New Zealand and England.
He reminds me of Warner – Mark Waugh
Mark Waugh was praising the Hurricanes batsman. He said that he reminds me of David Warner. The reason behind that was the player’s clean hitting and the way of going about his innings. Also, the fact that Short has come out of nowhere makes him resemble with the Australian vice-captain.
“He reminds me of a David Warner a bit, just with his clean ball striking and he is almost come out of nowhere. We haven’t seen a lot of him we might have seen him last year in the Big Bash when he put together a couple of good innings. But this year he is going to the next level,” said Mark Waugh while talking to a bunch of reporters to Daily Telegraph.
He also said that Short has that x-factor in him. The thing that he can bowl a slow left-arm orthodox is a plus point for the team as well. Waugh also said that he wants to keep generating such talents from the squad.
“He [Short] is a player who has got that x-factor. He can bowl as well, he has a good left arm as well. We want to that kind of players to come through, we want to generate these kinds of players through our squads,” Waugh continued.
Our main focus is T20 World Cup
Mark said that T20 World Cup is the main focus here. He also said that there are a lot of players missing so it is a time to bring one player at a time and nurture them tournament by tournament.
“The T20 World Cup is obviously the focus. So each tournament, take one at a time. We have got a strong side, even though there are a few players missing but hopefully, we can start getting some confidence by winning whatever tournaments there are in front of us. And obviously, the world cup will take care of itself,” Waugh concluded.
