D’Arcy Short reckons his style is suitable for an opener
Short had a pretty eventful beginning to his career with success under his belt.
D’Arcy Short has recently emerged as a dynamic prospect for Australian cricket, especially in the shortest format of the game. He was the highest run-scorer in the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL), representing the Hobart Hurricanes. The left-handed batsman managed to score 572 runs at a staggering average of 57.20 and a strike rate of 148.57.
He was duly rewarded for his stupendous performances as he was bagged by the Rajasthan Royals for 4 crores to play in the eleventh season of the Indian Premier League. To multiply his delight, Short has also been drafted into the Australian national team for the ongoing T20 tri-series against England and New Zealand.
Desire to open for Short
He perished cheaply in his debut game. However, he stormed back to notch a couple of handy scores under his belt, opening the batting for the Kangaroos. The Katherine-born cricketer has also expressed his desire to continue opening the batting for Australia in a recent interaction with the media. “Definitely. I am suited there and that’s where I like to bat and, hopefully, I can stay there,” Short affirmed.
He also narrated that his teammates wanted him to open the batting while admitting that the separation of David Warner and Aaron Finch as an opening-pair sparked as a surprise.
“Just having a chat to the other guys, they wanted to keep me opening because I have done so well in the Big Bash and throwing me down the order might change that a little bit. But I was definitely a little bit surprised considering how well they have done at the top,” the opener added.
Short had a pretty eventful beginning to his career with success under his belt. While his swashbuckling style of play has earned him success from the cricketing fraternity, it will be interesting to see whether or not he manages to cement his position in the Australian team for the long run.
