Daryl Mitchell reunites with wife and kids ahead of England Test series
'For me, the whole reason for playing the game is for my family,' said Mitchell
New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell reunited with his family in London as he arrived with the team for the forthcoming Test series against England. Mitchell was a part of the Rajasthan Royals set up and was away from his family, living the bio-bubble life. He left IPL before the Qualifier 2 game in order to join his national team.
In 2019, Mitchell was recruited into New Zealand‘s Test team as a substitute for Colin de Grandhomme, who was injured. He bowled with good control on a slow Hamilton track and made a comfortable 73 in his maiden innings with the bat, thereby making a mark on the team.
England and New Zealand will be playing a three-match Test series starting June 2, 2022 with the first Test scheduled at the Lord’s cricket ground in London. The two teams will move to Nottingham for the second Test which begins on June 10, followed by the third and final game scheduled on June 23 at Leeds.
The visitors shared a video on their official Twitter handle where Mitchell is seen meeting his kids and wife after arriving in London. “For me, the whole reason for playing the game is for my family and so to have them here with us and to experience what I’m experiencing is pretty special. Last year, bubbles and all sorts of [things]. So, we could not have brought families along,” he said in the video.
“So some of them can now come along and see what a cricket tour life is. We’re really looking forward to it. The last few weeks, in the IPL, [we were] stuck in bubbles, can’t see [our] families. So, seeing them after a couple of months is really nice,” Mitchell added.

Meanwhile, Mitchell was a part of the runners-up team Rajasthan Royals this year in the Indian Premier League 2022. Though he did not get much opportunity to be a part of the playing combination, he received praises from their Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara for his constant assistance and efforts during the team’s journey.
