Dav Whatmore astonished by Kohli-Kumble saga

One of the most respected coaches from Australia, Dav Whatmore, who has previously coached different international team all around the globe, seemed surprised with the recent Kohli-Kumble spat which grabbed all the eyeballs in the cricketing fraternity. Whatmore cited out that there must have been some miscommunication on part of the coach and the captain which led to such a situation.

The former Aussie cricketer has coached all over the Indian subcontinent including teams like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and also Zimbabwe. The ties between Indian captain Virat Kohli and Whatmore go back to 2008 during the famous U-19 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur. Whatmore was the designated coach when Kohli led the young side to victory. Whatmore believes Shastri has got some pretty good generals and wouldn’t want to tinker much with prominent changes

Communication holds utmost importance with coaches and captains, says Dav

“I was a little bit surprised. It’s not the best way to go about things. It seems like there may have been a little bit of miscommunication. The captain-coach relationship is very important in the well-being of the team going forward. Teams will change depending on how mature they are depending on the number of games played and the coach will have to adapt accordingly.” commented Dav Whatmore according to an interview with Sportstarlive.

“I’m not sure things will change much. He has got some pretty good generals on the field. He also has Sanjay Bangar, Bharat Arun and R. Sridhar, who are a good trio of people to offer their expertise and prepare the team to have success as they did during their previous stint together. It can do. Like poles repel as I have said earlier. But there is no question that players make the coach. There has got to be a healthy respect between the two individuals for things to work out.” concluded the 63-year old Sri Lankan born coach.
