Virat Kohli has been fantastic for India in all formats over the last few years. The Indian captain is the world No.1 in ICC Test and ODI rankings for batsmen. While his performance in the Test cricket has been incredible, his ODI record is even better. The right-handed batsman holds a lot of records in the format including fastest to 10,000 runs and given his form he is set to break more records in the future.

Sachin Tendulkar had fallen one short of scoring 50 One Day International centuries but Kohli is in a good position to break that record. Virat Kohli is just 30 and he has scored 39 centuries in just 218 One Day Internationals. It seems that Virat overtaking Sachin in the number of centuries is just a matter of time. The incredible record of the Indian captain means that some pundits are claiming that Kohli might be the greatest ODI player.

The right-handed batsman played a brilliant inning in the second ODI as India chased 299 at the Adelaide Oval. Some critics were questioning his form as the 30-year-old Kohli was not as consistent in this tour as he’s known for. But he silenced the critics by scoring the 39th century of his glittering ODI career which brought back the visitors in the three-match ODI series.

Dean Jones hails Virat Kohli

The Delhi-born is a sensible batter who can single-handedly win matches for his team. Former Australian cricketer pointed out that Virat Kohli’s 32 centuries out of 39 have come in winning causes. He highlighted that Kohli has scored 11 hundreds in Australia which is most by a visiting batsman Down Under. Jones claimed that the bearded beast will be known as the greatest batsman to play in the One Day International format.

“I’ve noticed now that 32 of Virat Kohli’s 39 hundreds in One-day cricket have come in a winning cause. He now has 11 international hundreds in Australia, the most in all formats by visiting batsmen. He’s such a magnificent player and I get the feeling, with all due respect to Sachin Tendulkar, that he will be known as the greatest One-day player of all time,” Jones wrote in his column for Times of India (TOI).
