Dean Jones contradicts with Cheteshwar Pujara's statement after the warmup game
Pujara had asserted that conceding 500 runs in a warm up game meant nothing
India’s tour of Australia kicked off with the T20 Internationals. However, the main action begins at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday as the much-anticipated Test series between these two teams gets underway. With the absence of prominent faces in the opposition like Steve Smith and David Warner, India might stand a really good chance to secure a series win down under.
Ahead of the Test series, they played just one warm-up fixture and there the Indian team ended up conceding 500 plus runs against Cricket Australia XI. Among the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t take part. Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma took only two wickets, having bowled 50 overs between them. When asked if it was an area of concern, India’s No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara asserted that conceding 500 runs in a warm-up game meant nothing.
Dean Jones disagree with Pujara
Dean Jones came across Pujara’s statement on Twitter and disagreed with him instantly. The former cricketer was recently occupied with the Pakhtoons franchise in the concluded T10 League. He felt that it made a huge difference for the young squad to post a total of 500 against a team like India.
Youngsters like Max Bryant, Harry Nielsen and Aaron Hardie contributed significantly as CA XI posted 544 on the board in the first innings. Surely, the total may have been a huge morale boost for the fresh legs in the squad. Hence, Dean Jones pointed out the same on Twitter in response to Pujara. “Well it does to the Australian boys who scored those 500 . Just saying,” he wrote.
With Prithvi Shaw ruled out of the first Test, Murali Vijay’s century in the warm-up game settled the opening combination for the first game. Pujara hasn’t been in a great form lately but his fifty in the match inspired some confidence. He had a horrid tour against Australia previously and will be looking forward to making amends this time around.
