Dean Jones slams national selectors for the disarray in Australian cricket
Dean Jones went on to question the selections of Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson in the national side.
Things seem to have fallen apart big time for the Australian cricket over the last 12 months. The team has been underperforming, and are at the receiving end of the critics. When the touring Indian side recently beat them in the ODI and the Test series, the severity of the alarms only got increased. If former cricketer Dean Jones is to be believed, then the ones to be blamed for this disarray in Australian cricket are the national selectors.
Dean Jones called out for massive changes in the cricketing setup. He noted that the selectors should be sacked and only then things could improve. To talk about the downfall, things started off with the infamous sandpaper gate that saw Steve Smith, David Warner, and Cameron Bancroft being banned from cricketing action. This brought infamy to the cricketing colours in the country.
“I am sorry, but I am over these national selectors. I know the depth of talent within Australian cricket circles is not that great, but for me, the biggest problem in Australian cricket is our selectors,” Dean Jones quoted in an article for Sydney Morning Herald.
Unfair selections?
Dean Jones went on to question the selections of Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson in the national side. Not that he doubts those players, but he cited that there have been others in the domestic circuit who have been performing even better, but have never received a national call yet.
“The mixed messages the national selectors panel are sending out has left players, media and fans scratching their heads. Well, talk me through how Marnus Labuschagne and Jhye Richardson got selected before others?” questioned the former cricketer.
Australia’s dismal run in international cricket is there to be seen for all. They were drubbed in the ODI series against England, they faced an embarrassing whitewash defeat in the T20I series against Pakistan, they were beaten in the Test series against Pakistan, and more recently, they were beaten in a Test series on their home soil by the Indian side for the first time in the history of the game. This was followed by an ODI series defeat against the same Indian side.
